Phil and I joined Young Living in 2013 when our second miscarriage and my ongoing health needs left us looking for alternatives outside the box of conventional medicine. Before long, my outlook shifted from hopeless to hopeful again, and that prompted us to share what we were learning with others. Need hope? Come join us on the journey. Wellness is worth it!
I have known Lauren for many years, but it has only been in since May 2014 when I joined the Young Living family under her leadership that I truly realized what a wonderful person she is! Friends know details about friends, right? So, here are some things you should know: I love belly laughs, old movies, warm hugs, deep conversations, mugs of coffee heavy with cream, Amelia Peabody mysteries, essential oils, sand between my toes, a good massage, a clean kitchen, and flannel sheets on a frosty evening. Each of my nieces and nephews is my favorite. I think my husband pretty much hung the moon.
My areas of interest and expertise include leadership, personal development, home business, organization, work/life balance, supporting optimal endocrine system function (thyroid, adrenals, hormone balance, energy), loving God and others, and making a difference in the world through acts of kindness. Most things I learned the hard way. Thanks to Young Living, I’ve been able to leverage the tremendous resources of this company to start building the foundation for a six-figure income while taking concrete steps toward optimal health and wellness.
Fifteen years ago I was uptight, stressed out, and struggling to get out of bed each morning. Perfection was my self-imposed expectation, and I worked hard to mask the failure to meet my own standard as I smiled on the outside and fell apart behind closed doors. Thank goodness I’m not in that place anymore! Now I’m a recovering perfectionist pursuing a life of authenticity, faithfulness, love and simplicity. I write about my musings occasionally over on the blog at www.laurenvandermeer.com. Come visit! On the road from hopeless to hopeful, I love learning from others who, like me, are still in the midst of the journey.
Have you ever heard a statistic and felt a sinking feeling from your tummy to your toes? That’s how I felt this summer when I heard a PhD talk about the number of chemicals we get exposed to daily through our air, water, fabrics, you know … “little” things like that. I wanted to make a change but didn’t quite know where to start.
Then I had a thought: if I wanted to start with one change that could make the biggest difference right away, what would it be? Bang for the buck, people. Have you ever thought like that? If you’re thinking about making an investment, you want the biggest return for your hard-earned dollars, right? Same idea.
So, here’s what I decided. The easiest place to start reducing chemicals for me was the laundry room, because a couple simple switches there affect every fabric that touches my skin, from the clothes I wear, to the towels I use after showering, and the sheets I sleep between. I made this decision right around the time Young Living debuted their concentrated laundry detergent. So, bingo! You guessed it. I snagged a bottle and went to work systematically reducing my chemical exposure one load of laundry at a time.
With its sweet, cinnamon-y smell, this laundry soap has all of our textiles smelling amazing. I was so inspired I actually took another step and ordered some wool dryer balls to replace the dryer sheets I’d been using. Now, when I take the clean clothes out of the washer, I throw them in the dryer, add a couple drops of essential oil to the wool balls, and voila! It’s done. (Lemongrass and Geranium are my current favs, by the way.)
Reduced chemicals. Simplified laundry routine. Clean clothes. Smaller environmental footprint. Now that’s simple!
What about you? Want to make a simple change that packs a big difference? Contact me and let’s talk about how Young Living essential oils and oil-infused products can help you achieve your goals for better wellness. Whether you want to start in the laundry room, the gym, or the kitchen, there are a wealth of resources just a few clicks away!
Want to know one of my secrets for reducing the number of chemicals in my life and on my skin? It’s this: essential oil “perfume” in place of the scents I used to like. This is about as easy as it gets, friends! All you have to do is think about what smells yummy and dab it on. Then enjoy all the side-benefits that go along with smelling amazing and chemical free!
Here are a few of my favs:
For starters, there’s Joy. Great name, right?! I dab this blend behind my ears, on my wrists, and over my heart and breathe deeply to promote a normal, healthy emotional balance. Joy manages to smell both exotic and innocent at the same time. Not a bad combo, eh?
Then there’s Release. After spending years battling emotional and physical exhaustion in a spiritually-crippling environment, I left and launched out on a new path. Since joining Young Living, I’ve used this blend to help me connect with my emotions as the Lord and I work on unpacking baggage from the past. We all have it. Don’t you want to let it go?
Sometimes it’s tough to keep a cool head! When I need a little extra somethin’ somethin’, Dragon Time goes a long way toward supporting a healthy hormone balance. Goodbye, hot head; hello, calm, cool, and collected!
And then there’s Stress Away. Just use this any time you wish you were on vacation at your favorite island hideaway with your special someone. Okay, every day.
It starts with a nauseating sensation or a sharp intake of breath as my heart begins to race. “Oh no,” I think to myself, “Here it comes. Again.” If you’ve ever experienced one, you know what it’s like to feel the burn of a hot flash or worse, to wake up drenched from a night sweat. It’s about as much fun as the chore that gave Cinderella her name.
Not only do they feel horrible in the moment, hot flashes mess with your mind. Because you never know when “the dragon within” will raise its ugly head, and when it does, you know there’s nothing you can do to stop what your body is about to do. Nada. If only the power of hot flashes could be harnessed … Hot Flash Girl to the rescue on a cold winter’s night! But, I digress.
The first few months of hot flashes were tolerable. But they went from bad to worse when the prescription I’d been given took me from mild imbalance to menopausal hormone levels in a matter of months. “Get used to it,” was essentially what the nurse told me when I pointed out how much worse I was after I followed her protocol. “It’s likely to be this way for the next 10 years or so.” Ugh.
When I was at my most desperate, my friend Sandi shared with me about essential oils and how they support healthy functions of the body. Progessence Plus became a favorite overnight and seemed to help my body do a better job of beating the dragon into some semblance of submission. But, once unleashed, it never fully went away.
And, when the supply of Pro Plus went from reliable to spotty thanks to the amazing addition of thousands of people who joined Young Living last year, I’ll confess that, at times, I felt desperate. The thought of having to do without my new friend made me feel as helpless as a damsel in distress standing in front of a real, fire-breathing dragon.
With (little) hope and a prayer, last month I ordered Dragon Time. Hormones are tricky things and they’re influenced by lots of factors. But, lo and behold, I think I’ve finally found the dragon-slaying combination for me!
When we first began our venture into Young Living, my whole focus was on wellness … my wellness, to be exact. The resources were a lifeline and I needed one because, to be honest, I was drowning. Fast forward three years and I’m at a completely different place. Whew!
Not only have I experienced physical, emotional, and spiritual strengthening, our involvement with Young Living has brought with it another pretty unexpected blessing: a new revenue stream.
After 30+ years (combined) working with and for non-profits, Phil and I now find ourselves launching into a new arena. We’re leveraging what we’ve learned about having our own business into a class to help others gain the knowledge and skills they need to join us as part-time entrepreneurs. We are so excited about sharing things like:
If you’d like to learn how to leverage YOUR network and get paid for your work more than once, shoot me an email and lets chat! I’ll fill you in on our teaching schedule and share some of the resources that have inspired us. We believe that change – on a personal and societal level – starts with one life, one day at a time. That’s how we live. That’s why we teach.
